Llandovery Castle - Llandovery

The ruins of Llandovery Castle still hold a commanding position on a small hill overlooking the town on one side and the valley of the river Bran on the other. It was built by the Normans in the twelfth century in order to defend against Welsh uprisings. It has a motte (or mound) and bailey structure which is visible even now and its rugged, ruined dignity still inspires local artists.
